Emergency Furnace & HVAC Repair in Vancouver, Available 24/7
No heat. No cooling. No hot water. When your furnace, heat pump, air conditioner, or boiler stops working, Canada Trust Heating & Cooling sends a licensed technician to your door any hour, any day, including weekends and holidays.
What Counts as an HVAC Emergency
If you’re dealing with any of the following, don’t wait. Call us now:
- No heat at all during cold weather, especially overnight or with young children, seniors, or pets in the home
- Gas smell near your furnace or boiler. Leave the house immediately, call the BC Gas Emergency Line at 1-800-663-9911 first, then call us
- Furnace making loud banging, screeching, or grinding noises
- Heat pump frozen solid or covered in ice and not defrosting on its own
- No hot water from a failed hot water tank or boiler
- Carbon monoxide alarm going off. Leave the house immediately and call 911, then your gas utility
- Burning smell coming from vents or the furnace itself
- AC completely dead during a heat warning, especially a risk for elderly residents or anyone with health conditions
- Water leaking from your furnace, heat pump, or hot water tank
- Electrical issues, like a tripped breaker that won’t reset, or a burning smell from the electrical panel near your system
If you’re not sure whether your situation counts as an emergency, call us anyway. We’d rather walk you through it on the phone than have you wait through a cold night or a dangerous situation.
What To Do Right Now While You Wait
If You Have No Heat
- Check your thermostat is set to "Heat" and the temperature is set higher than the room temperature
- Check your furnace power switch. It looks like a regular wall light switch, usually near or on the furnace itself, and it's sometimes flipped off by accident
- Check your breaker panel for a tripped breaker labeled "furnace" or "HVAC"
- Check that your furnace filter isn't completely clogged. A blocked filter can cause the system to shut down as a safety measure
- If none of these fix it, turn the system off and call us. Continuing to run a malfunctioning furnace can cause further damage
If You Smell Gas
- Don't turn any lights or switches on or off
- Don't use your phone inside the house
- Leave the house immediately and get everyone out
- Call FortisBC's 24-hour emergency line from outside: 1-800-663-9911
- Call us once you're safe and the gas utility has been notified
If Your Heat Pump Is Frozen or Covered in Ice
- This can be a normal part of the defrost cycle. Give it 30 to 60 minutes to clear on its own
- If it's still solid ice after an hour, turn the unit off at the thermostat
- Don't try to chip or scrape ice off the coils yourself. This can damage the unit
- Call us for a diagnostic. Frozen coils are often a sign of low refrigerant or a failed defrost control
If Your AC Stops Working During a Heat Warning
- Check the thermostat batteries if it has a digital display
- Check your outdoor breaker hasn't tripped
- If you have vulnerable family members at home, like infants, elderly relatives, or anyone with respiratory or heart conditions, move to a cooled space such as a mall, library, or community centre while you wait for service
- Never leave anyone, especially children or pets, in a vehicle during extreme heat while you wait

Canada Trust Heating and Cooling are amazing to work with. We were selling our home and had several gas fireplaces that stopped working and they quickly sent a team, repaired and had us looking great for our open house. Professional, kind and nice people. 10/10 in my world.Posted on Google James FarrarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service from Ismet and colleague! They said they have been to our complex many times before. They explained everything clearly. Very clean and fast. Ismet placed a heavy duty mat in front of the fireplace before starting. Nothing left behind after removing… our dog Roscoe hounddog did a thorough investigation to be sure. We will definitely use them again.Posted on Google Shirley TangTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had our gas meter changed out. The tech came back and started our water heater back up and waited for it to settle down and burn normally. All was good, we went out and came home three hours later and the pilot light was out. Called fortis and they sent another tech out and we were told after numerous attempts that the tank was leaking and for us to call the company that installed it. We called Canada Trust the next day and they came before I finished my coffee. Checked it all out, found out that condensation was dripping onto the flame extinguishing it. He got the heater going and waited for the condensation to evaporate, and then spent 10 minutes reassuring us that this was complete and in working order. I would like to thank Sean for his professionalism and the company for their understanding and excellent customer service. Regards, Ivan and Sue.Posted on Google Ivan AndersenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ismet was super helpful during his visit to service my fireplace. Would definitely recommend his services!Posted on Google Daniela Rubio
Heating & Cooling Emergency FAQ
Yes. Canada Trust Heating & Cooling provides emergency furnace, heat pump, air conditioning, and boiler repair 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and statutory holidays, across Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, and the rest of the Lower Mainland.
Response times depend on your location and the time of day, but most emergency calls are answered the same day, often within a few hours. When you call, we’ll give you an honest estimated arrival window before you commit.
Pricing depends on the issue and the part needed. We keep our current rates, tune-up packages, and rebate-eligible offers on our seasonal promotions page, and we always confirm the cost with you before starting any repair.
Leave your home immediately, don’t turn any light switches or electrical devices on or off, and call FortisBC’s emergency line at 1-800-663-9911 from outside the house. Once you and your family are safe and the gas utility has been notified, call us so we can inspect and repair the issue.
A light frost during a normal defrost cycle is usually fine and will clear within an hour. If your heat pump is completely covered in solid ice for more than an hour, turn it off and call us. This often points to a refrigerant leak or a failed defrost control that needs a licensed technician.
No. Banging, screeching, or grinding noises usually mean a mechanical problem is getting worse. Continuing to run the system can cause further damage and increase repair costs. Turn it off and call us for an inspection.
Evening, weekend, and holiday emergency calls may be billed at a different rate than standard daytime hours. We always confirm the applicable rate with you before dispatching a technician, and current pricing is listed on our seasonal promotions page.
We repair all major residential furnace, heat pump, air conditioning, and boiler brands, including Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Lennox, Carrier, Trane, York, Rheem, and Goodman, regardless of whether we originally installed your system.
Yes. A non-functioning furnace during cold weather can create a health risk for infants, seniors, and anyone with a medical condition. Carbon monoxide leaks, gas leaks, and electrical faults are also safety emergencies, not just comfort issues. If you suspect any of these, leave the home and call emergency services before calling us.
Yes, in many cases. FortisBC and CleanBC offer rebate programs for high-efficiency furnace and heat pump installations. See our current rebate-eligible offers or ask your technician during the visit.
